Relationships Australia New South Wales (RANSW) welcomes the NSW Government’s announcement of a $30.4 million investment to deliver more than 30 community mental health clinicians across the state.

RANSW CEO Elisabeth Shaw said the funding is a positive step in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community.

“We welcome this investment, and the crucial role mental health clinicians play in the community,” Ms Shaw said.

“We are pleased to see these clinicians rolled out in key community areas and we look forward to hearing where the next locations will be.

“Mental illness doesn’t discriminate based on postcode, which is why we need more experienced workers in local settings.

“Research clearly demonstrates that our mental health will depend on the quality of our connections with others. Our relationships can keep us going or can lead to despair, anguish and hopelessness.

“At RANSW we know all too well that for some people, their very survival can depend on better relationships with others.

“We ask that the NSW Government build on this momentum by continuing to find ways to invest in evidenced-based early intervention services, including relationship and family services.

“This funding is a very worthwhile step forward and hopefully part of a larger, longer-term commitment to have more workers on the frontline.”
