The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has been on the ground in the Mid North Coast and the Hunter, providing support to the State Emergency Service (SES) during the flooding emergency.

Local Team Leader Gary Clayton said RRT volunteers in Maitland were called to assist the SES early last week and moved quickly.

“As soon as we got the call from the SES, we mobilised straight away in order to provide daily meals to emergency responders in the region,” said Gary.

“From Monday to Friday teams in Maitland and Taree distributed about 520 meals, including lunch, dinner, and snacks for Maitland and Taree SES crews.

“The SES and other emergency workers were helping the community amid rising floodwaters and heavy rain, and RRT was happy to be there to provide them the fuel to keep them energised.

“Our volunteers were on the ground in the Maitland region from Monday to Friday, supporting the SES with about 300 meals.

“RRT also helped out in Taree from Thursday morning through to Friday evening to SES crews in that region.”

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,000 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
