FARMERS COMMUNITY CONNECT JAMESTOWN
WHEN: Friday 6 June 2025

WHERE: Victoria Park, Kilmarnock Terrace, Jamestown

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) will support farmers around South Australia’s Mid North who have been hit hard by the ongoing drought by trucking in 1,500 bales of donated hay.

Farmers will be welcome to claim bales of premium-graded cereal hay at RRT’s Farmers Community Connect event in Jamestown on Friday 6 June.

RRT Director Mick Dunn said Farmers Community Connect is an initiative aimed at bringing local communities together, to give them a morale boost while also offering practical support.

“Farmers across parts of South Australia have been doing it tough as the drought-conditions continue to impact their lives and livelihoods, and we hope this Farmers Community Connect event will bring them a little relief during this difficult time,” Mick said.

“23 Rapid Relief Team trucks will be loaded with bales of hay in Queensland and will roll into Jamestown for the event on Friday 6 June.

“As well as free hay, farmers will have access to local service providers with a range of support available, and of course we’ll be firing up the RRT BBQ and cooking up bacon and egg rolls and signature burgers for those who attend.

“We’re all in awe of the resilience of our farmers but this drought is more severe than many people realise. This a small way we can help them out.

RRT thanks the South Australian Government for support this event with a $195,000 grant. The grant will be used to fund the transportation of the donated fodder from Queensland.

RRT’s contribution is estimated at over $250,000, funding the donation of the hay, the volunteers, and the catering.

This will be RRT’s 33rd Farmers Community Connect event. In November 2024, RRT fully funded the transportation and donation of 250 tonnes of livestock feed to 169 Mid Murray farmers at an event in Mannum.

Since 2018, RRT have provided support to over 5,500 farmers impacted by fire, floods and drought.

South Australian Government Grant

The grant funding is made available through the Drought Donated Fodder Transport Assistance Scheme administered by Primary Industries South Australia (PIRSA). The purpose of the grant is to support drought-affected livestock producers by covering the freight costs of donated fodder delivered through approved charitable organisations.

The Rapid Relief Team’s Co-contribution

RRT’s co-contribution is voluntary and not a condition of the grant. The cost of purchasing the hay and running the Farmers Community Connect event comes from RRT's operational budget, in addition to the donated time of 30 or more volunteers.

About the Rapid Relief Team

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
