The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) is thanking its 5,300 Australian volunteers this National Volunteer Week, for helping carry out the RRT mission of serving people with care and compassion in times of need.

RRT Director Mick Dunn said RRT volunteers across Australia have already donated more than 4,400 hours at more than 200 events this year.

“This National Volunteer Week, the Rapid Relief Team sends its gratitude to our volunteers that make it possible to keep giving back in bigger and better ways every year,” Mick said.

“We aren’t even halfway through 2025, but it has already been a huge year for RRT, with 5,300 volunteers clocking up 4,414 hours, serving 27,842 meals at 203 events – and there are many more to come.”

In January, RRT supported frontline emergency workers at fires in NSW and Victoria, and storms in the Hunter in January, supplying them with meals around the clock.

RRT stepped in to help another charitable organisation, Penrith Community Kitchen, to ensure free, nourishing meals could still be provided to the community when it had to temporarily close its facilities for renovations in February.

RRT carried out a massive operation across 12 days in March in response to Cyclone Alfred in Queensland and NSW, assisting with filling and distributing sandbags, while cooking up meals for both emergency workers and evacuated residents. In April, RRT supported the Good Friday Appeal in Victoria, and in May, RRT is holding special appreciation lunches at hospitals across the nation for International Nurses Day.

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,000 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
