Cement Industry Federation < 1 mins read

Today the Board of the Cement Industry Federation (CIF) announces that its Chief Executive Officer, Margie Thomson will retire from the role, effective 15 July 2025.

Over the last 15 years Margie has played a key role developing policy and advocating the position of Australia’s integrated cement manufacturing sector on a wide range of issues.

Chair of the Board, Rob Davies said “The CIF greatly appreciates the legacy Margie will be leaving having positioned the CIF to take on current, as well as new and emerging issues to secure our sector’s future.

Margie has been instrumental in raising the profile of the CIF to ensure our sector continues to be a strong contributor to jobs, (especially in regional Australia), growth and productivity in Australia and will prosper if appropriate regulatory settings are in place.

Margie has played a pivotal role in working with the Federal Government and its Departments over a wide range of issues, especially in terms of climate and sustainability policies, including the recent reforms of the Safeguard Mechanism. In particular, advocating for the need to maintain a level playing field where imported products are not required to carry the associated costs of the Albanese Government’s signature policy to reduce industrial carbon emissions.

Margie was instrumental in the development of our sector’s decarbonisation plan and the key technological, policy and investment requirements that can assist the Australian cement and concrete industry to meet its declared ambition to deliver net zero carbon cement and concrete by 2050.

On behalf of the Board and team at the CIF, I thank Margie for her relentless commitment and outstanding contribution to the industry and wish her all the very best for the next phase in her future."
