Media Alert: Locked out Helensburgh miners gathering for solidarity BBQ

Mining and Energy Union < 1 mins read
  • When: Wednesday, 25 June, 8:30am
  • Where: Charles Harper Park, corner of Parkes St and Walker St, Helensburgh (Behind Helensburgh Post Office)

Locked out miners from Peabody's Metropolitan Coal Mine near Helensburgh will be gathering at Charles Harper Park for a union meeting and solidarity barbecue tomorrow morning, 25 June.

MEU members at Metropolitan have been locked out of work for over a week, in retaliation for undertaking a single hour stop work during their bargaining campaign.

Peabody's attempt to punish workers and intimidate them into dropping their bargaining rights is just the latest example of disproportionate and callous employee response actions under the current industrial relations regime.

The Helensburgh miners will be gathering to show their solidarity and reaffirm their commitment to secure a better deal for their families and workmates.
