MEU determined to bring workers’ voices to Resources Safety and Health Queensland review

Mining and Energy Union Queensland District < 1 mins read

The Mining and Energy Union acknowledges the announcement of a review into Queensland’s resources safety framework, and we will be engaging strongly to ensure workers’ voices are front and centre throughout the process.

Our priority is clear: every worker must come home safe, every shift

We look forward to hearing from the Minister and anticipate a meaningful opportunity to contribute. We will be ensuring that the everyday experiences of members help shape the future of safety regulation in Queensland.

Glencore Pays More Next Door: Ulan Mine Workers Strike Over Unfair Pay Gap with Sister Site

Work at Glencore’s Ulan underground operations ceased this afternoon as MEU members began 24 hours of strike action. Fed-up MEU members voted to down tools for 24 hours across all midweek shifts after 16 months of enterprise bargaining meetings failed to deliver a satisfactory agreement. The key issue is Glencore’s refusal to lift pay rates to match those at the neighbouring Glencore-owned underground mine, Ulan West. “It simply doesn’t pass the pub test. The decision affects over 2000 workers and will deliver annual pay increases in the order of $30,000. It is the biggest Same Job Same Pay win in the coal industry so far, following…

The Fair Work Commission has today backed Same Job Same Pay at three BHP coal mines in Central Queensland in the biggest win so far under new labour hire laws. The landmark decision will lift pay for over 2000 workers and is a nail in the coffin for BHP’s sham labour hire model, the Mining and Energy Union said. The decision means the Commission will make orders covering labour hire workers employed by WorkPac, Chandler Macleod and BHP’s in-house labour hire subsidiary Operations Services at Saraji, Peak Downs and Goonyella Riverside Mines. MEU Queensland President Mitch Hughes said that once…
