Shelter WA welcomes Fraser Suites conversion

Shelter WA < 1 mins read

Shelter WA has welcomed the announcement of the acquisition and conversion of the Fraser Suites apartment complex in East Perth.

“We wholeheartedly congratulate the Cook government for this investment and the bold leadership this announcement shows,” Shelter CEO Kath Snell said.

“This is an incredible, game-changing investment into new social and affordable housing stock, right here in our beautiful city centre. The housing crisis touches everyone, and projects like this are the perfect solution when managed with the right supports.

“We particularly applaud the location and scale of this investment. Social and affordable housing needs to be in every postcode, in well located areas close to services, amenities and public transport, and local jobs. Embedding social and affordable housing within communities, with suitable strategies for best outcomes for the whole of community, is vital.

“We are also inspired by the ambition to convert this entire complex into social and affordable housing – and it will build on the incredible success stories including the Murray Street Lodge and Boorloo Bidee Mia conversions.

“We thank the Cook Government for the ambition and dedication this announcement clearly reflects."
