Tahmoor hiring good news for workers and community

The resumption of hiring at Tahmoor Mine is an important and welcome milestone in returning the mine to operation and comes as a relief to a community which has suffered needlessly due to corporate mismanagement. Tahmoor’s new owners, GM3, have begun the process of re-staffing the mine, beginning with workers who elected to take voluntary leave without pay in order to preserve their entitlements. From Underpayments to Lockouts: MEU Says Peabody Keeps Letting Workers Down

The Mining and Energy Union has condemned Peabody Energy after the company entered into an Enforceable Undertaking with the Fair Work Ombudsman following the repayment of almost $5 million in unpaid wages, superannuation and interest to 197 current and former workers. The undertaking comes as Peabody remains embroiled in bitter, protracted enterprise agreement negotiations with workers at its United Wambo washery in the NSW Hunter Valley, where employees have been subjected to repeated lockouts during enterprise bargaining.
