Media Alert: Mineworkers celebrate massive BHP Same Job Same Pay win 12.15pm Rockhampton

Mining and Energy Union < 1 mins read

Mineworkers are celebrating a decision handed down by the Fair Work Commission yesterday in favour of an application for Same Job Same Pay at three large BHP Central Queensland coal mines.

The Commission agreed with the Mining and Energy Union that labour hire workers at Saraji, Goonyella Riverside and Peak Downs mines, including BHP Operations Services workers, should be paid at the higher rates of permanent employees.

The decision affects over 2000 workers and will deliver annual pay increases in the order of $30,000. It is the biggest Same Job Same Pay win in the coal industry so far, following a long MEU campaign.

Mining and Energy Union Queensland President Mitch Hughes and representatives from the affected mines are in Rockhampton today.

When: 12.15pm Tuesday 8 July

Where: Rockhampton Leagues Club, Cambridge St Rockhampton
