UNSW Sydney has announced the Green Fellowship program, an ambitious scheme to attract the world’s brightest academic minds. Named in honour of UNSW’s Scientia Professor Martin Green, who pioneered much of the technology underpinning solar panels, the fellowships will be open to exceptional international academics working on solving some of the world’s biggest problems.
UNSW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs said he is looking forward to welcoming the Green Fellows to Sydney.

“Named in honour of UNSW’s own solar pioneer Professor Martin Green, this program will further our impact as a global research leader tackling the great challenges of our time.”
UNSW is ranked 20th in the world, according to the latest QS rankings. The Fellowship Program is open to distinguished academics whose research aligns with at least one of UNSW’s four Societal Impact Areas:
- Accelerate the transition to a sustainable society and planet
- Advance economic and social prosperity
- Enable healthy lives
- Strengthen societal resilience, security and cohesion
The individuals who are selected for the Green Fellowship program will be hosted by a School or research centre, where they will be integrated into the UNSW community.
The Fellowship positions will be for a minimum of 12 months and up to two years, with the possibility of conversion to a continuing role. UNSW will cover salary and relocation costs. Eligible academics are expected to be at equivalent Levels C/D/E (Senior Research Fellow, Associate Professor and Professor).

Prof. Martin Green said he is delighted and honoured that the University’s Fellowship program bears his name.
“Throughout my career I’ve had the privilege of working alongside brilliant minds from Australia and around the world,” he said.
“It’s this kind of deep collaboration, drawing on diverse perspectives and experiences, that enabled my team and myself to pioneer new pathways in solar and green energy.
“I see that same potential in the Green Fellowships, and I’m excited to see the meaningful and impactful outcomes of this global collaboration.”
