Twenty years ago, a group of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) established the voluntary TOP TIER™ standard to enhance fuel detergency and optimize engine performance. Recognizing the advancements in engine technology and the need for updated standards, these OEMs have introduced the revised TOP TIER+™ standard. This new standard includes additional requirements to address potential deposit issues in GDI engines, ensuring cleaner and more efficient fuel options.

The new TOP TIER+™ standard, revision G, published in early January, includes two new test methods using a GM LHU engine. The first test evaluates injector deposit control by measuring injector fouling and particulates. Injector fouling can lead to poor spray patterns, compromised fuel delivery, reduced fuel economy, and increased particulate emissions. The second test focuses on protection against stochastic pre-ignition (SPI), a harmful pre-ignition event that can occur in modern downsized engines and potentially lead to engine failure. In anticipation of these changes, Afton Chemical has developed the HiTEC® 65522 GPA series, our most effective chemistry to date. They are specifically formulated to maintain excellent control of intake valve deposits while providing superior deposit control for direct injection engine technology. These additives ensure optimal engine performance and longevity, aligning with the stringent requirements of the new TOP TIER+™ standard.

"We are excited to introduce the HiTEC® 65522 GPA series to the market," said Gerardo Alvarez, Marketing Director for the Americas at Afton Chemical. "Our team has worked diligently to develop an additive that not only meets but exceeds the new TOP TIER+™ requirements. This launch underscores our commitment to providing innovative solutions that support the latest advancements in engine technology."

Battery boost welcome but loans are the missing link to slash bills for everyone

Rewiring Australia says the expansion of the home battery subsidy is a positive step, but accessible finance will be critical to ensure lower power bills are shared across the community. The Federal Government yesterday announced an expansion of its Cheaper Home Batteries program, which provides an upfront discount on eligible home battery systems to reduce installation costs for households and small businesses. Rewiring Australia CEO Francis Vierboom has welcomed the expansion while highlighting the need to ensure more households are able to participate as rebates reduce over coming years. “This announcement reflects the growing role household batteries play in an…
