Gaza: Genocide Must Stop; PM Should Act Now

“Today thousands of Australians will walk the streets of our capital cities pleading for an end to the genocide in Gaza”, said Dr Tim Woodruff, Vice president, Doctors Reform Society. “We, like many other, call for a ceasefire in Gaza and a restoration of food and other aid to stop that genocide perpetrated through bombs, starvation, and a lack of medical aid as a result of the Israeli Government action.”

“Furthermore”, said Dr Woodruff, “we call on our Government to act rather than just talk to help make these things happen.”

“Hamas and Hezbollah have appropriately been designated terrorist organisations by our Government. That means sanctions are imposed on them and it is a crime to support them. We call on the Government to declare the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) a terrorist organisation”, said Dr Woodruff. “The terror they have inflicted on innocent children, women, and men in Gaza and in the West Bank, is even greater than the terror Hamas and Hezbollah have inflicted over many years. Such a declaration would mean sanctioning organizations and companies in Australia which support the IDF. It would mean the end of the connections between the Australian Defence Force and the IDF.”

“We are told it is not if, but when our Government recognises the existence of a State of Palestine. There is no moral reason to delay that recognition.”

“By all means keep talking”, said Dr Woodruff. “But it is time now to act.”

“Act now, Mr Prime Minister.”
