NATIONAL COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE: 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF AUSTRALIAN SERVICE IN THE MALAYAN EMERGENCY

 

A national commemorative service will be held in Canberra on Sunday, 31 August 2025, recognising the 75th anniversary of Australian service in the Malayan Emergency.

 

This anniversary provides the opportunity to honour and remember the service of all Australian men and women who served in the Malayan Emergency, and the support and sacrifice of their families.

WHERE:  Rond Terrace (Parkes Way), Canberra

DATE:  Sunday 31 August 2025.

TIME:  Media to arrive by 9.30 am. A pre-service event will take place from 10:10 am. The national commemorative service will commence at 10.30 am.

 

More than 7,000 Australians served during the Malayan Emergency, with the Malayan government officially declaring the Emergency over on 31 July 1960, however Australian forces remained on anti-communist operations along parts of the Thai-Malay border until 1966. 39 Australians lost their lives. 

There will be a designated media area at the service, with clear line of sight to the ceremony. Please note that due to road closures there will be limited parking available near the commemorative site. Should you require parking, please let us know when you register.
