Medianet launches science-backed REAL Impact Score to measure the impact of media mentions

Medianet 2 mins read
Key Facts:
  • Medianet launches REAL Impact Score, a new metric for measuring the impact of media mentions, providing a reliable alternative to traditional AVE/ASR.
  • The score is based on three core elements: Dynamic Reach, Engagement, and Authority & Leverage to assess media coverage impact.
  • REAL Impact Score was co-developed with data science partner Identrics and Medianet's analysts to provide science-backed measurement.
  • Designed to help identify high-impact coverage and report confidently to stakeholders in alignment with the AMEC Barcelona Principles 4.0.
  • Now available to all Medianet media intelligence clients.

Medianet, a leader in media intelligence, today announces the launch of the REAL Impact Score, a mention-level metric designed to provide public relations and communications professionals with a reliable and science-backed measure of the true impact of their media coverage.

For decades, the PR industry has grappled with demonstrating the impact of media mentions, often relying on inflated and unreliable legacy metrics such as AVE/ASR or static Reach numbers to track the value of media coverage. The REAL Impact Score challenges the status quo by offering a sophisticated, realistic and robust measure of the impact of mentions in the media.

Co-developed by world-leading data science partner Identrics and Medianet’s award-winning human analysts, the REAL Impact Score is a proprietary metric that analyses three core elements of media coverage:

  • Dynamic Reach: The audience size and viewership of the media outlet, regularly updated.

  • Engagement: The number of social media interactions with the article.

  • Authority & Leverage: The influence and prominence of the author and publication.

“I’ve been pleased with how many communications professionals recognise AVEs are highly inadequate, but frustrated by the fact they had to settle for this because of the lack of a reliable alternative. For too long, our industry has been searching for a credible way to prove the value of our work beyond simple Reach or AVE numbers," said Amrita Sidhu, Managing Director of Medianet.

"The REAL Impact Score marks a pivotal step forward. We're moving the conversation from 'how many people could have seen it' to 'what was the actual impact.' It’s a metric built for data-driven proof of impact to communicate to the C-suite, and very proudly in alignment with the globally recognised AMEC Barcelona Principles 4.0."

The REAL Impact Score empowers PR and communications professionals to:

  • Instantly identify high-impact coverage: Cut through the noise of high-volume mentions to see which articles are truly influencing the agenda and making an impact.

  • Report with confidence: Provide stakeholders with a clear, tangible metric to measure the impact of communications and media coverage.

  • Prove the value of communications efforts: Report to the C-Suite and key stakeholders not just where mentions happened, but also the quantifiable value of each of those mentions.

The REAL Impact Score is now available to all Medianet media intelligence clients.
