Sunflowers on Sydney Harbour honour lives lost to suicide as communities are offered free training to save lives

📅 Saturday 6 September 2025
🕚 11.30am
📍 ACO On The Pier, Pier 2/3 Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay

This Saturday, families and friends bereaved by suicide will gather on Sydney Harbour for the Wesley LifeForce Suicide Memorial Service, a moving ceremony where sunflowers will be placed into the water to honour loved ones lost.

Timed just before World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September), the event offers the community an opportunity to reflect, grieve and find hope together.

Suicide continues to devastate communities: 3,214 Australians died by suicide in 2023, an average of nine lives each day. In NSW, the toll rose to 954 deaths in 2024, higher than previous years.

Wesley Mission CEO, Rev Stu Cameron, says, “Every life lost to suicide leaves behind a circle of grief that touches families, friends and communities. When we gather, we remind each other that no one grieves alone. With training, prevention is possible.”

More than 50,000 Australians have completed free Wesley LifeForce suicide prevention training, equipping them to recognise warning signs and support those at risk. Across the country, 138 LifeForce Networks and 3,000 volunteers are building safer, more connected communities.

The service will feature music, prayer, lived-experience voices and support from professional counsellors.
