GUNDAGAI, NSW – An iconic stop along the Hume Highway is being re-imagined for the next generation of travellers. The Dog on the Tucker Box kiosk will re-open in time for the school holidays. The re-opening of the kiosk marks the first step in the revitalisation of one of Australia’s most beloved landmarks.

With a nostalgic farmhouse feel and a vibrant village vibe, the re-designed kiosk will invite visitors to pause, connect, and experience the spirit of this iconic Aussie landmark. Beyond a quick coffee stop, the Dog on the Tucker Box team is transforming the site into a destination where history, mateship and hospitality converge.

Travellers can look forward to:

  • creamy gelato in a rainbow of flavours made on site
  • Melbourne’s best coffee brand served with freshly prepared sandwiches, locally made cakes, and classic treats
  • locally sourced Annie’s Pantry artisanal products, celebrating the region’s producers
  • Dog on the Tucker Box-branded merchandise and dog treats, the perfect keepsake for visitors and their four-legged companions.

The re-opening is the first stage in a broader regeneration, with the Dog on the Tucker Box site set to become a must-see retail and cultural precinct on the Hume Highway, where families connect, memories are made, and the spirit of the Australian road trip comes to life.

Robert Winnel, AM, Chairman for the Dog on the Tucker Box redevelopment and the new custodians of this iconic site, said, “As a builder, I’ve always believed that places tell stories and the Dog on the Tucker Box tells one of Australia’s best. Our aim is to restore and re-imagine this site so it’s not just a pit-stop, but a place where travellers can experience our heritage, enjoy quality local food, and feel proud of being part of the legend. This project is about giving back to an icon that means so much to Gundagai, and to all Aussies who’ve pulled in here on their journey”.

The re-opening of the kiosk follows the recent handover of the site from the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council on 22 July. Worked started in earnest following this date, to remodel the existing kiosk and prepare for the first of the new Dog on the Tucker Box village shops.

For those travelling between Sydney and Melbourne, it’s not just time to stretch your legs — it’s time to get off the leash.

We invite you to stop by, relax and see what we have on offer, and what we have planned.
