Penrith’s Future Gets a Boost with New Y Community Hub

The Y NSW 3 mins read

The Y NSW (formerly YMCA) is deepening its commitment to Western Sydney with the Official Opening of a new Community Hub in Penrith this week, a vibrant space designed to inspire, connect and empower its local people.

The Y NSW has proudly worked alongside the people of Western Sydney for decades, delivering meaningful programs and opportunities for children, young people and families. This new Community Hub cements that commitment, investing in one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions that providing a welcoming space for young people to reach their potential.

On 6 September 2026, the Y Penrith Community Hub will be officially opened by NSW Premier Chris Minns MP, joined by Federal Member for Lindsay Melissa McIntosh MP, State Member for Penrith Karen McKeown OAM MP, Penrith Mayor Todd Carney, and Olympic gymnast and Y NSW alumni Emma Nedov, who will MC the event.

The Hub features a state-of-the-art gymnastics arena, multi-purpose sports court, dedicated community rooms, flexible spaces for parties and events and outdoor education. From basketball and volleyball to youth-led initiatives such as StreetGym and Alternative Suspension, the facility offers a place where young people can find belonging and build brighter futures.

Rob Kennaugh, CEO of the Y NSW, said the hub embodies the organisation’s vision for generations to come.

“The Y Penrith Community Hub is a place where children and young people can feel connected, discover what inspires them and have the chance to thrive. We’ve proudly been part of Penrith for more than 20 years, and this new facility strengthens our promise to create safe, welcoming spaces for every young person in the community.”
“Looking ahead, our vision is that every child and young person in NSW is positively impacted by the Y; through programs that build confidence and through our recreational offerings that encourage active lifestyles. With the Penrith Community Hub, we’re investing in that vision and creating opportunities for connection, wellbeing and growth wherever there’s a Y,” added Mr Kennaugh.

Premier Chris Minns MP welcomed the investment in the region.

“This will be a place where young people will want to be. I want to congratulate the Y for putting their hand up and offering this fantastic option for the people of Penrith.”

In Western Sydney, the Y NSW is proud to deliver a range of impactful programs for children, young people and the wider community. This includes not only our state-of-the-art Y Penrith Community Hub offering gymnastics, basketball, school holiday programs and spaces for community group activities, but also Outside School Hours Care services and youth programs (such as StreetGym in Cranebrook) where young people can be safe, connect and thrive.

The Y’s vision is simple yet powerful: all children and young people in NSW are positively impacted and living inspired lives due to our programs. With the Penrith Community Hub now open, that vision is coming to life right in the heart of Western Sydney.

Media are invited to attend this event or visit the centre prior for media coverage and interviews.
