The Great Spring Clean Up is now underway across the country with registrations still open
for volunteers to come together and take action for the environment.
Clean Up Australia in partnership with Bupa is also presenting three Healthy Cities Community Clean Ups on September 19 between 10am-1pm at Sydney CBD, Castlereagh Street, the Birrarung at Federation Square, Melbourne and at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. These events coincide with World Clean Up Day which is on Saturday 20th September.
All three events will provide an additional way for people to participate in a Clean Up during The Great Spring Clean Up campaign and to play a part in helping tackle litter in our streets, parks and waterways, to encourage healthier cities, healthier people and a healthier planet.
Pip Kiernan, Chair of Clean Up Australia said: “We are helping our volunteers, community , local councils and schools organise Clean Ups in every part of the country. Spring is synonymous with heading outdoors to enjoy the warmer weather, but it is also right before severe weather season kicks in around our country. This makes it a vital time to try and remove as much litter as we can from our waterways and environment.”
Roger Sharp, Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer at Bupa Asia Pacific said: “As a healthcare company, we know that the environment has a significant impact on the health of people. Through our partnership with Clean Up Australia, we’re taking action together to clean up our public spaces and encourage active volunteering, so people have the best chance of living healthier lives.”
The Great Spring Clean Up takes place after Clean Up Australia Day, which is Australia’s largest day of environmental action and takes place on the first Sunday in March annually.
Volunteers will receive a free Clean Up kit, containing gloves, bags and other resources, with packs for individuals, families and community groups available (businesses are asked to pay a small fee to cover costs).
If you are unable to participate, donations to Clean Up Australia are welcome, with 100% of funds raised going directly to empowering Australians to take positive action for the environment and providing free Clean Up kits.

About Clean Up Australia
Founded by Ian Kiernan, AO in 1990, Clean Up Australia is one of the country’s most recognised and trusted environmental organisations, inspiring and mobilising communities to improve and conserve our environment, eliminate litter and end waste. Clean Up Australia Day is the nation's largest community-based environmental event, and more than 23 million volunteers have participated since its inception.
Clean Up Australia now works with community, governments and businesses to provide practical solutions to help all Australians live more sustainably every day of the year. Today the organisation’s focus is as much on preventing litter entering our environment as it is removing what has already accumulated.
