What: Media conference calling for a national inquiry into racism in workplaces across Australia

Race Discrimination Commissioner Giridharan Sivaraman together with President of Australian Council of Trade Unions Michele O’Neil, Professor Nareen Young, academics, community leaders and advocates are calling for a national inquiry into racism in Australian workplaces.

Charges filed for breaches of child employment laws

Wage Inspectorate Victoria has filed charges in the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria against Nasida Pty Ltd, (trading as South Beach Project), alleging the business contravened the Child Employment Act 2003. It is alleged the Mount Martha based business employed a child under the age of 15 without a licence and contravened laws relating to maximum permitted work hours and failing to give the child an adequate rest break. The maximum penalties for these offences are in excess of: $237,000 for employment without a licence $47,000 for breaching maximum daily and weekly hours $47,000 for failing to give a rest break…

Macquarie University modelling reveals devastating cuts to student learning

Modelling fromMacquarie University reveals student learning time and subject choices will be slashed if it pushes ahead with savage cuts to its staff this week. Nearly a third of Arts subjects will be removed from the 2026 curriculum as part of sweeping changes which come after the university executive knocked-back their own planning which would have met the $55 million budget objectives without any redundancies. The modelling also reveals the Faculty of Arts are planning to reduce tutorial weeks by more than 25 per cent, lecture weeks by almost 17 per cent, and allocate just 36 minutes to each student…
