“The Chinese Hypnotist” celebrates educators by proving the mind is the most powerful classroom.

Teachers inspire minds — and this World Teachers’ Day, comedy hypnotist Haiming Jiang, better known as The Chinese Hypnotist, is giving that inspiration a surprising twist. With his signature mix of psychology and laughter, Haiming Jiang is using comedy hypnosis to show educators — and everyone else — how belief itself can be reprogrammed.
“Before I became a comedy hypnotist, I worked as a life coach. I taught people how to reduce anxiety, believe in themselves, and be more confident. So I was also a teacher.”
That mindset still drives his performances. On stage, Haiming combines entertainment and insight to demonstrate how the mind responds to suggestion — and how that same principle can transform everyday thinking.
“Under hypnosis, everything in a person's mind feels real. During the show, I use this phenomenon for entertainment. Hypnosis can also help people become a better version of themselves. Under hypnosis, a better version became real for them too. This is how hypnosis helps people change.”
Despite lingering scepticism, Haiming is clear that what audiences see is authentic.
“People on the stage are just ordinary people. I have never met any of them before. Under hypnosis, everything I suggested became real to them. And they simply react the way I guide them. They are just normal audience members, enjoying the hypnosis experience.”
The show’s deeper message lands between the laughter.
“During the show, I used hypnosis to change people's beliefs and make them do something funny. Then, through the show, I explained to the audience that belief is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you have any belief that does not support your goal, change it, replace it with a positive belief, and take action to prove your new belief is true. This will change their life for the better.”
As for his memorable stage name:
“The Chinese Hypnotist is my stage name. There's no special meaning behind it because I'm Chinese and I'm a hypnotist. This is easy for people to remember.”
If a teacher tells him they’ve lost their spark, Haiming offers a practical answer:
“The reason you have lost your spark is usually because your focus is on something that isn't good for you. It's like being under hypnosis without even realising it. When you shift your focus on something positive and towards what you truly want, you work your spark back. Hypnosis is a powerful tool to train your mind to do exactly that.”
For educators, his World Teachers’ Day message is equal parts motivational and mindful:
“Belief is a self-fulfilling prophecy because you believe it, you make it true for you. So everyone should choose a positive belief. The takeaway for World Teachers’ Day is simple: believe in yourself and teach your students to believe in themselves.”
And, of course, the comedy keeps the lessons digestible:
“I hypnotise a Kiwi to speak Chinese, and a lady to translate Chinese into English. Then I asked the man, what does your favourite Chinese woman look like? The lady started to describe herself as the man's favourite Chinese woman and said, somebody like me. It was hilarious. That video has over 4 million views on TikTok.”
