Electoral Matters Committee continues program of public hearings as part of review into the 2025 Federal Election

Parliament of Australia 2 mins read

The Electoral Matters Committee will continue its program of public hearings as part of the review into the 2025 Federal Election.

On 31 October in Canberra, the Committee will hear from several stakeholders in its election review, including the Electoral Integrity Assurance Taskforce, Global Shield Australia and Prof Kim Rubenstein.

On 7 November in Canberra, the Committee will hear from political participants; including members and senators.

The Committee will begin interstate hearings later this year and early into next year, starting with dates in Melbourne (Kew Court House on 12 November) and Bendigo (All Seasons Resort Hotel on 13 November).

Committee Chair, Mr Jerome Laxale MP said, ‘We are keen to hear views from voters and other election participants as we visit places around Australia. We encourage anyone who is interested in speaking with the Committee on 12 or 13 November to register their interest as soon as possible. Information is available from the Committee website’.

Mr Laxale said, ‘Now that hearings are underway, we are also keen to get as many written submissions into the public domain as possible—while late submissions can be accepted, we hope that the majority of individuals and organisations can get their views to us by 14 November.’

In the meantime, the Committee has commenced closely reviewing the submissions provided to date, and is publishing them on the inquiry webpage.

‘The Committee has given careful consideration to ensuring that people can freely express their views, while also balancing the implications of adversely naming specific individuals or candidates’, Mr Laxale said.

Further information on the 2025 election inquiry can be found at the inquiry webpage. Committee details can be found at the Committee’s webpage.

Thousands of affordable homes axed this year sparks call for more social housing

National housing campaign Everybody’s Home is urging the federal government to make 2026 the year it significantly stumps up funding to plug the social housing shortfall, as an affordable housing scheme comes to an end. The National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS), designed to provide affordable rentals to people earning low and middle incomes, has been winding down since 2018 and is set to end in June 2026. The latest federal figures reveal more than 4,500 affordable homes will exit NRAS this year - the final lot of the more than 36,000 affordable homes that have phased out of the scheme…

MEDIA RELEASE - For immediate release Quotes attributable to Jeremy Leibler, President of the Zionist Federation of Australia "Hizb ut-Tahrir has spent years intentionally promoting extreme forms of antisemitic hatred, while carefully skirting the law. Extremism doesn’t begin with violence, it begins with normalising hatred.” On the Bill set to pass the Senate tonight, he said, “We welcome the bipartisan support for this regime - which rightly allows for dangerous groups like Hizb ut-Tahrir and the National Socialist Network to be banned.”About us: The ZFA is the representative body of the Australian Jewish community and its Zionist organisations.
