This weekend, the KIDS Foundation will proudly take on the Noosa Triathlon with its largest-ever 8 Teams, 72 athletes and all wearing the KIDS colours and competing with purpose. Together, they’ve already raised more than $140,000 with a target of $200,000 to support children and families recovering from traumatic life-altering injuries, burns, and other degenerative health conditions.

Leading the charge the swim leg of one of the KIDS teams is Clayton Nicolas, a KIDS Survivor, volunteer, and participant in the KIDS Empowering RIGHTS Program based in Noosa who had his life changed after a mining accident where he received 55% burns. Losing fingers will not stop him hitting the water and inspiring others on their recovery journey.

On the bike leg, KIDS Founder and CEO Dr Susie O’Neill OAM with her own heart - health challenges, who strongly believes that from bad things, good things can grow.

And powering through the run leg is KIDS Ambassador Mick Marshall, a record-breaking endurance athlete whose life changed forever when he fell from a wind turbine, suffering catastrophic leg injuries. Mick just completed the world’s toughest ultra race, the UTMB Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in France as an adaptive athlete and is returning to join the team on crutches just 7 weeks after major surgery.

“I’m extremely honoured to be participating in the Noosa Triathlon with two of the most extraordinary humans. I believe our team embodies the very heart of KIDS Foundation and truly represents, all abilities inclusiveness, overcoming adversity, with the can-do mindset that helps our children and families recover and build stronger lives”, said Susie.

About the KIDS Foundation

KIDS stands for - ‘Kids In Dangerous Situations’. A charity established by Dr Susie O’Neill in 1993 for children with traumatic life-altering injuries, burns, and genetic conditions that change appearance and physical capabilities.

Our purpose is to help navigate the challenges of life-altering appearance and capabilities following burns, accidents, abuse incidents, and life-altering genetic conditions and educate to promote safety and wellbeing.

We do this through camps, recovery and equine programs, and education in early learning settings.

Backing down from net zero puts people and communities at risk

The Liberal Party’s decision to abandon the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 puts people, communities and the environment at risk. This threat is most acute for people and communities experiencing disadvantage, who have least capacity to prepare, adapt and recover from extreme weather events, ACOSS says. “This withdrawal from the emissions commitment, as the global community is gathered at COP, shows indifference to our climate emergency and threatens further harm to people already experiencing the sharpest impacts of climate change,” ACOSS Acting CEO Edwina MacDonald said. “Communities experiencing disadvantage across Australia face escalating threats from intensifying natural disasters.…

Victorian homelessness body warns of irreparable damage without urgent housing investment

Council to Homeless Persons has issued an impassioned plea to the Victorian Government to continue its legacy of bold reforms by funding evidence-backed programs and solutions to the state’s worsening homelessness emergency. Victoria’s peak body for homelessness has used its 2026-27 budget submission to highlight the highest rates of homelessness in living memory, calling for urgent and strategic investments which could turn the tide for the state, which has the lowest share of social housing in the country. “The Victorian Government has a strong track record of bold reform. Our leaders have given us action on Treaty, voluntary assisted dying…
