What: The Allan Government's subsidy for supported independent living is fewer than 80 days from expiring. Without an urgent extension more than 7,500 disability support workers will lose more than a third of their wages, 5,000 NDIS participants could lose support and 580 homes are at risk of closure.

Deakin University admits underpaying staff almost $3 million

The National Tertiary Education Union has welcomed Deakin University's pledge to backpay casual staff underpaid almost $3 million. The university announced on Tuesday it would start repayments, with roughly 440 staff affected by $2.9 million in underpayments over eight years. NTEU members have engaged in a long-running campaign including allegations of systemic underpayment of casual academics in the Fair Work Commission.
