Reuse and repurpose to win through the Reviva Reuse Competition

Resource Recovery Australia 3 mins read

Local not-for-profit organisation Resource Recovery Australia who operate Reviva Reuse Shops, has launched their annual ‘Reviva Reuse Competition,’ giving Noosa locals a chance to showcase their creative reuse and upcycling projects for a chance to win cash prizes.

Reviva Noosa Manager, Mitch McIntrye, says, “This competition is the highlight of our year because it showcases the incredible ideas and talents in our community. We often have customers chat with us about their upcycling projects, and we know that they will be eager to enter and win the competition.”

Now in its sixth year, the Reviva Reuse Competition has become a much-loved event that showcases the creative reuse projects of our talented community. Past entries have featured everything from repurposed clothing transformed into bedspreads to intricate mosaic art made from broken tiles, and even entire kitchens crafted from upcycled materials. “This year, we’re offering a national prize of a $300 Visa gift card, along with a local prize of a $200 Visa gift card,” said Mitch. “We’ve seen so many creative ideas come through our doors, and this competition is the perfect chance to showcase our communities imagination. The Noosa community has such a strong connection to sustainability and design, and we know we’ll see some clever creations entered this year.”

The Reviva team at Noosa are on hand and ready to support locals with inspiration and assistance in entering the competition.

“Upcycling helps reduce waste and the demand for new raw materials, making it a simple yet effective way to care for our planet,” Mitch explains. “It’s about taking old, discarded items and transforming them into something useful. Our community never ceases to amaze us with what they can create.”

With the cost of living on the rise, upcycling and reuse have become even more important.

“By upcycling, you can save money while making the most of what you already own instead of buying new items,” said Mitch.

Entry to the Reviva Reuse Competition is open to all members of the community. To enter, visit http://www.resourcerecovery.org.au/competition. The competition runs until the end of National Recycling Week, with entries closing on Saturday 15 November 2025.

Last year a local took out the Grand Major Prize. Shane Christensen spent 4 years collecting items from Reviva at Noosa to build a tiny home on wheels for his daughter and himself to live in. Shane said “I have a passion for using second hand materials and more than half the cost of the build was spent on second hand and recycled materials.”

The local prize went to Mick White with his entry for a two-storey tree house with fire poles, stairs, slide and brass bell. Mick spent months collecting old hardwood fence palings, rails and posts, and found steel handrails, corrugated water tank tin, left over paints and some old yacht rigging for the bucket and pulley system at Reviva Reuse Shop at Doonan.

Greenpeace statement on new WA gas-fired power station plans

PERTH, Monday 9 March 2026 — In response to reports that the West Australian government is preparing to build new gas-fired power stations in WA, the following lines can be attributed to Geoff Bice, WA Lead at Greenpeace Australia Pacific: “Adding new gas-fired power stations is a bizarre and backwards suggestion – there is no need for more fossil fuels in the WA energy system. WA desperately needs to reduce its emissions, so it makes no sense to undermine the good work of shutting down one fossil fuel source just to open up another. Recent modelling by Greenpeace clearly demonstrates…
