This Mental Health Month is the time for “Connecting When It Counts”

Mental Health Coalition of SA 2 mins read

The Mental Health Coalition of South Australia (MHCSA) today launches Mental Health Month, emphasising the importance of meaningful connections throughout life's pivotal moments under the theme "Connecting When It Counts."

The month-long initiative challenges traditional perceptions of mental health discussions, moving beyond crisis conversations to celebrate proactive wellbeing and community connection.

"Quite often when we talk about mental health, we talk about it when we're not travelling well. But mental health isn't just about tough times – it's about building meaningful connections throughout life's pivotal moments," said Geoff Harris, Executive Director of MHCSA.

"'Connecting When It Counts' reminds us that timely conversations about our mental wellbeing can make all the difference. Whether it's checking in with a friend who seems withdrawn, reaching out during major life transitions, or simply creating space for honest conversations, these connections form the foundation of good mental health."

"By normalising discussions about our mental health during significant moments, we end misconceptions and build on who we are. Mental health is an essential component of overall wellbeing, just as important as physical health."

"When we connect at crucial times—before small struggles become overwhelming challenges—we create opportunities for support, understanding, and healing. This Mental Health Month, let's commit to connecting when it counts. A simple conversation might seem small, but its impact on someone's mental health journey can be profound and lasting."
