Key Facts:

Recent research at Ranwick Public Library from UNSW Centre for Social Research in Health attached.

Dr Ash Watson a sociologist at UNSW Sydney’s Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, studies the social and cultural impacts of digital technologies.

She has recently completed research at the Randwick Public Library and is currently involved in a project at the NSW State Library.

"The social significance of public libraries continues to grow in the digital age," says Dr Watson.

"Libraries have long addressed issues raised within digital inclusion strategies today including technological accessibility, infrastructure, education and community supports. Understanding people's ongoing experiences of digital inequalities, and what makes libraries a valuable community resource in this context, is important for informing the development of sustainable, engaging, relevant and impactful digital
inclusion initiatives."

With 1 in 5 Australians facing digital exclusion it is vital to continue to support Australia's public libraries in order to support Australian communities.
