Yesterday, the community came together in an incredible show of strength and generosity for Ride4Bella — the annual 12-hour Ride-a-thon held in honour of angel baby Bella Tuddenham and dedicated to raising awareness and vital support for families affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
The day was a huge success, with fundraising figures still being tallied, but early estimates indicate the event is on track to exceed $150,000. The overwhelming support from riders, families, businesses and locals demonstrated the deep impact of Bella’s story and the power of community when united for a cause.
Adding to the energy of the day, Richmond Football Club Captain, Toby Nankervis, attended to show his support — even jumping on a bike and riding for several hours in honour of Bella and the families living with SMA.
Ride4Bella was created by Emma and the Hot Temple community to honour the life of Emma’s daughter Bella, who passed away at just 20 days old due to SMA, a rare genetic condition that weakens the muscles needed for movement, breathing and swallowing. Born without a vital gene, Bella’s strength faded quickly, taking her final breath at 11:11am — but her spirit continues to inspire thousands.
