Supercars legend Allan Moffat steers spotlight towards dementia awareness

Dementia Australia 3 mins read

Dementia Australia is excited to be back for a third year as the nominated charity for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, one of the greatly anticipated races in the Repco Supercars Championships calendar.

Supercars, Penrite Racing and Penrite Oil, the major sponsor and partner of the Supercars event, nominated Dementia Australia as their charity partner as a tribute to Dementia Australia Patron, Allan Moffat OBE, Supercars Legend, Hall of Fame inductee, and four-time Bathurst 1000 winner who is living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan said it is an honour to be part of such an important racing event.

“Thank you to Penrite Oil, Penrite Racing, Supercars and most importantly to Allan Moffat and his network of supporters for continuing to give back to the racing community and helping all racegoers to know that if they are impacted by dementia – they are not alone,” Professor Buchanan said.

“Allan Moffat as our Dementia Australia Patron and his support network have been so generous in sharing his diagnosis and experience of living with Alzheimer’s disease to raise awareness in the community and vital funds for Dementia Australia.

“Allan first talked about his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in September 2019 and with his support network he has continued to raise awareness about dementia as a Dementia Australia Patron.”

Ryan Lednar, Sponsorship & Events Manager Penrite Oil said he was excited to be working with Allan Moffat and Dementia Australia.

“It’s a privilege to be able to show our support for Allan, one of my heroes, and for Dementia Australia,” Mr Lednar said.

“With more than 433,300 Australians estimated to be living with dementia and more than 1.7 million people involved in their care, it's an important cause for everyone and especially close to our hearts here at Penrite Oil.”

As part of Dementia Australia’s involvement as the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 nominated charity, Dementia Australia Ambassador and actor Jessica Redmayne will be attendance to interview racegoers and help raise awareness about dementia.

The Home and Away star said she was excited to be trackside and spreading the word about dementia.

“Ever since my Mum was diagnosed with younger onset dementia in 2014, raising awareness about dementia has been a cause close to my heart,” Ms Redmayne said.

“I am thrilled to be at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 to talk to as many racegoers as possible about dementia and to let anyone impacted know they are not alone.”

The three-day race event runs from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November at the Sandown International Motor Raceway, Melbourne.

Penrite Oil Sandown 500 racegoers are encouraged to visit Dementia Australia’s stand on site across the three event days where there will be information and they can purchase merchandise in support of Dementia Australia.

The cost of keeping cool is making Australians sick: New report reveals millions forced to ration cooling during record heat

12 March 2026 Sweltering Cities has today released the findings of its 2026 Summer Survey, exposing a national health crisis driven by the rising cost of keeping cool. With data from more than 2,600 respondents across 766 postcodes, the report proves that for many Australians the high cost of staying cool is having serious physical and mental health impacts. The 2025/26 summer saw 68% of all respondents report feeling unwell due to heat. However, the survey reveals that this burden is falling most heavily on those already struggling with the cost of living. For renters and people with disabilities, the…
