Tasmanians deserve answers – not ambush politics.

Tasmanian Greyhound Racing Industry < 1 mins read

The Tasmanian Greyhound Racing Industry deserves an explanation from the Premier over his rushed attempt to legislate changes affecting an industry that supports Tasmanian families and communities.

Breeders, trainers, track staff, volunteers, small businesses and regional communities remember clearly that just two days before the election, the Premier committed to supporting the industry. Three weeks later, he announced a ban. What changed?

The Premier decided to kowtow to the Greens to save his premiership at the expense of Tasmanian jobs.

And now he’s rushing to legislate that ban only months after announcing his intention to phase out greyhound racing by 2029.

This legislation will impact the livelihood of thousands of Tasmanians and deserves thorough consultation and careful consideration. Rushing to legislate looks like a Premier in a hurry for a headline.

Quotes to be attributable to Luke Gatehouse

“Decisions that affect the livelihood of thousands of Tasmanians deserve to be carefully considered. The legislation has been introduced before any genuine industry consultation.”

“It appears the Premier is more focused on his legacy than on the people this legislation affects.”

“The Premier’s rush reeks of political fear, not responsible leadership. What’s the rush?”
