Vision Australia Award recognises Apple’s commitment to workplace accessibility

Vision Australia 2 mins read

Apple’s support for accessibility in the workplace was recognised with the presentation of the 2025 Vision Australia Corporate Award in Sydney this week.

Part of the annual Vision Australia Awards, which honour organisations and individuals making a positive impact on the blind and low vision community, the Corporate Award was presented by Vision Australia CEO David Williamson to Apple Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, at Apple Sydney.

“Apple has long had a commitment to accessibility across its product range, and that extends to accessibility in its employment practices and workplaces as well. Apple has been a great supporter of the Vision Australia Employment Services program, which has helped blind and low-vision jobseekers find employment at Apple Store locations across Australia,” said David Williamson, CEO, Vision Australia.

“Apple’s consideration of accessibility in hiring and employment, providing support and accommodations for people who are blind or have low vision to find the right opportunity and, most importantly, succeed, should be applauded. This doesn’t only benefit those individuals, it creates a workforce strengthened by accessibility, where all are valued,” concluded David.

The relationship between Vision Australia and Apple has been a long one, with Apple’s support of people who are blind or have low vision previously being acknowledged with a Vision Award in 2013.

AWU disappointed at Lactalis announcement of South Brisbane facility closure

Today the AWU was contacted by Lactalis Australia to advise that they have announced their plan to close their South Brisbane facility. While we don’t have all the details at this stage, we have been advised that the company plans to close the site on the 10th of July this year and up to 202 direct workers will be affected, along with contractors. AWU members have been proudly producing dairy products at the South Brisbane site since 1937, including Australia’s first square milk bottles and UHT long- life milk, and we are disappointed to hear this facility will be closing…

Time to take profit out of NDIS, union urges

The Australian Services Union has warned that for-profit providers are jeopardising the viability and integrity of the NDIS, and is urging the federal government to consider banning profiteering companies from the scheme. The call comes after the ABC’s 7.30 program last night aired a story about hundreds of disability support workers being shortchanged their hard-earned pay, superannuation and other entitlements by a complex group of for-profit providers in the NDIS. Over the last 18 months in NSW alone, the ASU has investigated 102 providers for underpaying workers and breaching the Fair Work Act, and all of these, bar two, have…
