Visit by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, People’s Republic of China

The Presiding Officers of the Australian Parliament, President of the Senate, Senator the Honourable Sue Lines, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Milton Dick MP, will welcome His Excellency Mr Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, as a Guest of the Australian Parliament from Saturday 22 November to Tuesday 25 November 2025.

Chairman Zhao will visit both Brisbane and Canberra, and his program will include engagements reflecting the importance of parliamentary exchanges in strengthening dialogue and deepening people-to-people links between Australia and China.

This visit follows the October 2024 visit to China led by Senator the Hon Sue Lines, President of the Australian Senate.

Treaties Committee to hold second public hearing into Manipulation of Sports treaty

TheJoint Standing Committee on Treatieswill hold a second public hearing today for its inquiry into theCouncil of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions(the Macolin Convention). The Macolin Convention is the only multilateral agreement focused on preventing match-fixing, corruption, and other manipulation in sport.
