Ambulance Victoria put on blast as union takes over social media in escalating pay dispute

Ambulance Managers & Professionals Association (AMPA) < 1 mins read

MEDIA RELEASE

Ambulance Victoria’s own staff have seized control of the organisation’s social media channels today; posting pro-industrial action messages as part of an escalating pay dispute.

Hundreds of Ambulance Managers & Professionals Association (AMPA) members – spanning the lowest-paid administrative roles through to senior managers and paramedics – have been taking industrial action for two weeks alongside the United Workers Union (UWU) and Victorian Ambulance Union (VAU).

AMPA members keep the state’s ambulance service running across payroll, rostering, fleet, health and safety, HR, property, procurement, and training. The action has already had major impacts on Ambulance Victoria’s functions and finances, while carefully ensuring patient, community and employee safety is protected.

AMPA Lead Pierce Tyson said today’s action marks the point at which members can no longer stay silent, taking their fight public after months of stalled negotiations.

“We’ve been negotiating for 7 months with no EBA offer from Ambulance Victoria. While we continue to negotiate in good faith, AMPA members are approaching Christmas having shouldered a 5% real wage cut.”

“Every Ambulance starts with us. AMPA members save lives every single day through their work, and the culture, governance and response times at AV will only improve by recognising their contribution.”

AMPA members will be increasing industrial action until they reach a fair wage offer. More details to come later today on public action progressing Wednesday 3 December.

Public Health Association of Australia

Closing VicHealth is backward and will make more people sick

The Public Health Association has today launched the Save VicHealth campaign after the VIC Government announced it will effectively shut the doors of the world’s first health promotion foundation, VicHealth. Closing VicHealth will prove a disaster for the health of the people of Victoria and must be reversed, the country’s peak body for public health says. The independence of the agency that has been vital in preventing chronic disease, and was structurally separated from constant pressures of a Department of Health that has been struggling and in atrophy since the COVID pandemic, almost guarantees that prevention efforts will all but…
