Audit Committee to scrutinise the administration of the NDIS

Parliament of Australia 2 mins read

The Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit has commenced an inquiry into the administration of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Committee Chair Josh Burns MP commented that ‘the NDIS serves an important function for many Australians with disability and its administration must be fit-for-purpose’.

The Committee will examine the performance of the National Disability Insurance Agency, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

In particular, the Committee will investigate:

  • management of financial sustainability risks and claimant and provider compliance with NDIS claim requirements
  • monitoring, measurement and reporting of NDIA performance
  • regulatory performance of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
  • Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s policy advice to government.

The inquiry will have particular regard to any matters contained in or connected to the following Auditor-General reports:

  • Auditor-General Report No. 22 2024-25 Audits of the Financial Statements of Australian Government Entities for the Period Ended 30 June 2024
  • Auditor-General Report No. 25 2024-25 Performance Statements Auditing in the Commonwealth—Outcomes form the 2023-24 Audit Program
