Community spirit on the tools:  Icon supports families escaping violence

Leading Australian building company Icon has reinforced its commitment to families affected by domestic and family violence, raising more than $45,000 for the StandbyU Foundation.

Icon will hand over the funds – raised through monthly on-site BBQs with staff and tradies – at a special event with StandbyU in the Gold Coast on 17 December 2025.

The extraordinary fundraising effort was capped off at Icon’s recent Christmas celebration, where a charity auction saw a colourful suit selling for $10,000 to lift the total funds raised to more than $45,000.

This contribution will directly support StandbyU in providing safety, connection, and practical support for families facing domestic and family violence, including the expansion of safe accommodation initiatives.

Through its partnership with Standbyu, Icon contributes time, skills, and resources to create safe, welcoming environments for vulnerable families, including support earlier this year in the refurbishment of a StandbyU duplex.

Domestic and family violence continues to rise across Queensland, affecting thousands of families each year. Many families have nowhere to turn, making safe accommodation and practical support more critical than ever.

Icon’s $45,000 donation will enable StandbyU to respond swiftly and effectively, providing families with safety, stability, and essential support during their time of need.

StandbyU Founder Chris Boyle said the generosity of Icon reflects the best of community spirit at a time when demand for safety and support is at an all-time high.

“This incredible effort from Icon shows what happens when a community puts compassion into action. Their ongoing support helps us create safe spaces and safety pathways for families who urgently need protection. We’re deeply grateful for the heart behind this partnership.”

Icon General Manager Jarrod Gill said Icon contributes time, skills, and resources through its partnership with Standbyu to create safe, welcoming environments for vulnerable families, including support earlier this year in the refurbishment of a duplex.

“Our team cares deeply about giving back, and StandbyU’s work is something that really resonates with us. These BBQs started small, but the response from our staff and tradies has been incredible, everyone wants to help. We’re incredibly proud of the team’s fundraising efforts and we know it’s going to make a meaningful difference for families who need it most.”

Representatives from Icon will visit Magnolia Place on Wednesday, 17 December at 1:30pm to formally present the funds to StandbyU Foundation. Media are invited to attend.
