HSU Allied Health Members to Oppose Second Vote on Public Sector Enterprise Agreement

Health Services Union SA/NT 2 mins read

The Health Services Union SA/NT (HSU), representing Allied Health Professionals and Medical Scientists, has been negotiating a new Enterprise Agreement with the Finocchiaro Government for more than nine months. After voting down their first offer, the NT Government referred the matter to the Fair Work Commission.

The NT Government is now putting the Enterprise Agreement back out to vote with only an additional 1% in wages and an offer that remains less than what police have received.

Allied Health covers a wide range of professions, including physiotherapists, radiographers, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, dietitians, psychologists, pathology scientists, and sonographers.

The HSU will be encouraging members to vote NO on this offer and make the Finocchiaro Government take seriously the needs of workers. If this offer is accepted, it would lead to a worsening of our health services, which will not be able to keep up with demand as workers leave for better-paying jobs interstate. The Territory will remain the lowest-paying public sector for many health professionals.

Allied Health will be walking off the job across every major hospital in the Territory on Wednesday 3 December 2025. Skeleton staffing will remain to ensure that essential services can continue. Further information to be provided.

Quotes attributable to HSU SA/NT Branch Secretary, Billy Elrick:

“Allied Health are going to fall behind the rest of Australia. If we don’t pay our Allied Health Professionals a competitive wage, they will leave for interstate.”

“The Finocchiaro Government is ignoring the risks they’re creating by not paying Territory’s health professionals a better wage. The health system will continue to literally and figuratively fall down on their watch.”

“The HSU is prepared to meet with Territory government representatives urgently to find a deal that works for everyone.”

“If the Finocchiaro Government keeps ignoring Allied Health, they will need to increase their industrial action to remind the government of their value to the system.”

“The HSU is preparing for strike action Wednesday 3 December 2025. Skeleton staffing will remain to ensure that essential services can continue.”

"I am proud to have once again signed off on the highest paid civil construction agreement in the country. If this project is to…

High-speed rail a transformative investment for jobs, housing and economy

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) welcomes the Federal Government’s funding commitment to progress high-speed rail between Sydney and Newcastle, with the investment reshaping transport and strengthening regional communities. RTBU National Secretary Alex Claassens said the funding demonstrates a clear recognition that rail plays a key role in Australia’s future transport mix. “This is a significant step forward and we commend the government for recognising rail as the transport option of the future,” Mr Claassens said. “For too long, our transport network has lacked the long-term investment and vision required to keep pace with the growing needs of Australians.…

New bill protects workers from AI excesses

Passage of the Work Health and Safety Amendment (Digital Work Systems) Bill 2025 through the NSW Parliament will curb unsafe, AI-driven work practices, rostering and invasive workplace surveillance, representing a landmark victory for workers. "This is a breakthrough for hundreds of thousands of workers," said Mark Morey, Secretary of Unions NSW. "By explicitly holding employers responsible when AI and digital systems harm workers, NSW is setting a proper standard for workplace safety in the digital age.” The legislation addresses critical gaps identified in parliamentary inquiries regarding work intensification and the psychological risks of automated decision-making. Under the new laws, employers…
