Rialto Distribution is excited to announce that the joyous new Australian musical THE DEB will hit cinemas nationwide from January 15, with the official trailer now available.

Set in the drought-stricken town of Dunburn, THE DEB follows big-hearted farm girl Taylah Simpkins, whose dreams of shining at the annual Debutante Ball are turned upside down by her sharp-witted city cousin Maeve.  Declaring the event a “heteronormative shit-show,” Maeve shakes up the town and Taylah’s plans, sending both on a hilarious, touching and music-filled journey toward friendship, self-discovery, and stepping confidently into the spotlight.

Marking the feature directorial debut of Rebel WilsonTHE DEB is powered by a standout creative team whose decades of experience across Australian and international filmmaking bring vibrancy and expertise to every frame.

The screenplay by award-winning writer Hannah Reilly delivers a fresh, contemporary Australian voice, while acclaimed musician Meg Washington contributes original songs that lift the story’s humour, heart, and energy. The production is overseen by Gregor Cameron, Amanda Ghost, David Jowsey, Greer Simpkin and Rebel Wilson, with executive producers Vince Holden, Len Blavatnik, and Danny Cohen, ensuring the musical’s story resonates with audiences.

THE DEB features a charming ensemble, including rising talents Natalie Abbott, Charlotte MacInnes and Stevie Jean, alongside seasoned actors Shane Jacobson, Tara Morice and Wilson herself, whose performances bring warmth and depth to the cast. Drawing on the same joyous, music-filled spirit that has made Australian favourites like Muriel’s WeddingThe Sapphires and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert beloved, THE DEB continues the proud tradition of films celebrated for their laughter, heart and unforgettable songs.

The official trailer is now available, giving audiences a first look at the film’s infectious humour, spirited performances, and uplifting musical numbers.
