ACN congratulates Australia Day Honours recipients

Distinguished members of the nursing profession have been recognised for their contributions to healthcare, education, and community wellbeing in the Australia Day 2026 Honours List.

The recipients span the breadth of nursing practice, from mental health and addiction services to academic leadership and medico-legal education.

The Australian College of Nursing congratulates all those recognised for their outstanding service, which represents the invaluable role nursing has in advancing healthcare practice, education, and policy across Australia.

 Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)

  • Professor Robyn Daneale Gallagher

For distinguished service to nursing academia, to cardiovascular health and disease prevention research, to rehabilitation, and to tertiary education.

 

Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division

  • Emeritus Professor Debra Lee Griffiths

For significant service to nursing and to medico-legal education.

 

Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division

  • Ms Jennifer Holmes

For significant service to community health through alcohol and drug use prevention and treatment initiatives.

  • Emeritus Professor Dianne Gaye Wynaden

For significant service to academic and clinical mental health nursing.

 

Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division

  • Mrs Deborah Ann Brassey

For service to the community of Pacific Palms.

  • Ms Megan Donnelly

For service to nursing, and to women.

  • Ms Katherine King

For service to nursing and midwifery.

Growth in future GPs strengthens Queensland’s primary care workforce

Patients in Queensland will soon find it easier than ever to see a GP, with a growing cohort of future specialist GPs commencing training in the Commonwealth-funded Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program with the Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP). In 2026, 359 future GPs have commenced training in Queensland, a 6.5% increase on 2025.
