Back-to-school Boost: The Fun, Free Games Helping Kids Learn in 2026

Roblox 3 mins read

With summer school holidays about to wrap up, many parents are turning their minds towards getting back to the regular routine, and dialling down screen-time to focus on the new school year ahead.

The good news is that online gaming can play a role in education, creating an engaging environment for children to learn and develop skills - a win-win for kids and parents. In fact, according to Aussie parents, 42% of children’s schools already use games to facilitate teaching, and nearly three-quarters of Australian adults believe that games help kids build creativity, confidence, and social skills, while supporting mental health and focus (Interactive Games & Entertainment Association's (IGEA) "Australia Plays 2025" Report).

So with term-time about to start, and the International Day of Education (January 24) just around the corner, ever-popular gaming platform Roblox is shining a light on some of the top educational experiences available today, with a list of games that will put a smile on the faces of the whole family. Parents and teachers can easily find these, and dozens of other educational experiences, via Roblox’s online Learning Hub, a dedicated site showcasing some of the best games for learning through play. From the hub, discover subject and grade-level appropriate experiences on topics like computer science and maths, right through to life skills and brain games.

Adam Seldow, Senior Director of Education Partnerships at Roblox: “As Aussie kids trade their boogie boards for backpacks and get ready to head back to school, it’s the perfect time to remember that play is one of the most powerful forms of learning. For parents, seeing your child engaged in video games isn't just about entertainment - gaming can also be an opportunity for education, supporting the development of skills like collaboration, digital citizenship, and complex problem-solving. When kids explore and create together in immersive worlds, they aren't just playing; they are building the critical thinking skills they need to thrive in the new school year ahead and beyond.”
