The National Asthma Council Australia (NAC) has announced the appointment of Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) nominee Dr Amanda Cross to the board.
Dr Cross is a clinical pharmacist and Senior Research Fellow at Monash University's Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, within the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS). Her work focuses on medicine safety and quality use of medicines for older adults. She is particularly interested in the role of healthcare professionals working as knowledge brokers to support the uptake of research evidence and guidelines into clinical practice. Evidence-to-practice gaps are a major barrier to avoiding medication-related harm.
Having lived with asthma since childhood, Dr Cross understands firsthand its impact and the importance of effective management.
“I’ve worked as a pharmacist across multiple practice settings, including community pharmacy, home medication reviews and residential aged care, providing advice and care to individuals living with asthma,” Dr Cross said.
“I’m enthusiastic to draw on this experience and to work with the National Asthma Council to help drive the adoption of the latest evidence to improve management of asthma for all Australians.”
The National Asthma Council Australia is the leading national authority for asthma knowledge, setting the standard for asthma care. The council provides healthcare professionals and consumers with resources including the latest asthma management guidelines and advice on using inhalers and spacers.
Dr Cross is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been a national board director for the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia for the past 2.5 years.
