The third and largest round of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) will transform the lives of tens of thousands of people, by delivering more than 21,000 new social and affordable homes across the country.
Round three opened today and brings the pipeline to 40,000 homes by mid-2029.
“The Housing Australia Future Fund is hitting its stride through a combination of ambition and delivery,” Australian Community Housing CEO, Mark Degotardi said. “Community housing providers are ready to build and get people into these homes fast. We will not just be delivering roofs over heads, but stable homes that help people build lives and strengthen communities.
“The scale of Australia’s housing challenge is significant, but we now have a Commonwealth Government that’s serious about building its way out of it, rather than just talking about it.”
Community housing providers are already delivering HAFF projects across the nation. Since the HAFF commenced, community housing providers have delivered 889 homes, with a further 17,161 either in planning or under construction.
“Community housing providers are purpose-driven. They ensure public investment stays in social and affordable housing in perpetuity.
“Social and affordable housing is nation-building infrastructure. Without it, homelessness will worsen and people who keep our communities running will be pushed to the edge. A secure home is what makes it possible to turn up to school and work and get on with life. It’s how we build a fair, prosperous and connected society — one where everyone can contribute and belong.”
“It’s encouraging to see Housing Australia applying the lessons from rounds one and two to make round three more streamlined and predictable. Consistent templates, clear metrics and faster decisions — alongside clearer pathways for governments, community housing providers and other partners to contribute where they add most value — will add up to homes delivered sooner. We look forward to working with government as round three rolls out to build on this early promise and get more homes online faster and more efficiently.”
“Community housing providers have the expertise, local knowledge and long term management experience needed to deliver and manager the homes Australia needs to restore affordability to the market. We are ready to partner with government and any other investor that is motivated to improve Australia’s housing affordability crisis.”
