North Sydney Streets: CBD ‘After Dark’ – the street party you’ve been waiting for!

North Sydney Council 2 mins read

This summer, North Sydney’s CBD will light up after dark as North Sydney Streets: CBD ‘After Dark’ transforms Brett Whiteley Place, Denison Street and Mount Street into a lively hub of food, music and community celebration.

On Friday 6 February, from 4pm to 9pm, Brett Whiteley Place and surrounding streets will close to traffic and open to the community for a free street party designed to bring people together in the heart of North Sydney.

As the sun sets, Brett Whiteley Place will transform into an open-air dining and entertainment hub. Long tables will spill onto the street, alive with the flavours of Anita Gelato, Four Hundred Bar & Kitchen tacos, Ciabatta’s artisan breads, Rafi’s modern plates, Glorietta’s Italian classics, Greenhouse Asian Salads and more.

Guests can raise a glass with refreshing beverages from the Firehouse Hotel Aperol pop-up bar, then wander through the space buzzing with entertainment and live performances. Roving magic and circus acts will pop up throughout the evening, alongside live music and DJ sets. Interactive games, surprise giveaways and more will add to the energy, creating the perfect mix of food, fun and city vibes - all under the stars.

North Sydney Streets is a new series of one-day community events that transform key locations into pedestrian-friendly zones filled with entertainment, creativity, and local flavours. The CBD edition brings an exciting “after dark” twist, offering workers and residents a chance to rediscover the precinct in a whole new light.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said:
“When the sun goes down and the streets come alive, North Sydney Streets: CBD ‘After Dark’ shows what’s possible when we reimagine our city. It’s an evening of energy, flavours, and fun for everyone - from local residents to workers - to experience North Sydney in a whole new way.”

North Sydney Streets is proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW. North Sydney Council was successful in receiving $350,000 in funding to support North Sydney Streets over three years.

Minister for Transport, John Graham said:
“We’re excited to support North Sydney Streets in the North Sydney CBD.

“Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. Our main streets are a critical part of our social infrastructure, and this program demonstrates how we can use our streets to bring communities together and drive revenue for local businesses.

“The Open Streets Program temporarily transforms our main streets into thriving, vibrant public event spaces.

“The colour and diversity of these 240 events across NSW celebrates the unique personality of each town or suburb. This is what our vibrancy agenda is all about, backing locals to create events and entertainment that works for their local community.”

The celebration continues with North Sydney Streets: Crows Nest on Saturday 21 February, from 12pm to 5pm. This family-friendly event will bring food, music and entertainment to the heart of Crows Nest - stay tuned for more details.
