After an unforgettable 2025 season that rewrote the record books, SCONE in New South Wales is set to host the 2026 PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour season opener on February 7 before the best of the best in the bucking world travel to Beaudesert.

The Monster Energy Tour will begin in Scone on February 7, before a two-day buck fest at Beaudesert on February 27 and 28. PBR will storm into Melbourne’s John Cain Arena and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the first time since 2019 and will make a debut in Coffs Harbour in September.

The fiercely contested PBR Origin Series continues in 2026 with the mighty Maroons out for revenge after the Blues made history in taking the title in 2025 for the first time. The state versus state battle begins in Newcastle on May 30, before Brisbane on June 6 and then the finale in Sydney at the TikTok Entertainment Centre on August 1.  The season will once again end where legends are made, in Townsville, home of Australia’s biggest weekend in bull riding over November 13 and 14.

“With so many great bull riders coming out of New South Wales right now, Scone is again a fitting place to start season 2026,” said PBR Australia Managing Director Glen Young. “Riders to watch this season are Queenslanders Zane Hall, Thomas Triplett, Kurt Shephard and Donovan Rutherford, as well as Clint Glass from New South Wales and from New Zealand, Riley Ward. With great emerging riders in the mix, Scone will test who is ready to step up in 2026 when the chutes open!”

“This year will see over a million dollars in posted prizemoney and bonuses awarded to cowboys across a season that runs to the second weekend in November with over 29 events scheduled from as far north as Cairns right down the east coast to Adelaide,” he said.

“The season will see us return to Melbourne John Cain Arena and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with majors and newly introduced tour spots Coffs Harbour, Traralgon and St Gregory’s College in Campbelltown, in addition to this we will be returning to the Supercars Townsville 500.”

Towns and cities on the full 2026 PBR Australia tour include:

  • Queensland (QLD): Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Beaudesert, Toowoomba, Burnett Heads, Bloomsbury, Caboolture and Sandstone Point.
  • New South Wales (NSW): Sydney, Newcastle, Nowra, Hawkesbury, Coffs Harbour, Orange, Tamworth and Scone.
  • Victoria (VIC): Melbourne, Gippsland and Traralgon.
  • South Australia (SA): Adelaide and Marrabel

Last year pushed the limits of the sport:

  • Mareeba superstar Kurt Shephard claimed the coveted PBR Australian Championship Golden Buckle, and made history as the first rider in PBR Australia to surpass $180,000 in season earnings.
  • Brazilian sensation Luan Crystian Camara capped off an extraordinary debut year as both 2025 National Runner-Up and Rookie of the Year, ending the season with 1,931.50 points.
  • Clermont’s Brady Fielder, No. 3 ranked rider in the world in 2025, delivered a global first, becoming the only rider in PBR history to reach 100 qualified rides in a single season.
  • And on the bull front, Alpha Blokes Warden (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls) dominated as Bucking Bull of the Year, remaining unridden all season.

Similarly, the 2025 PBR Australia Can-Am Junior Academy Series wrapped up in spectacular fashion, delivering edge-of-your-seat action and showcasing the next generation of bull riding talent. In the Pee Wee Division, Chase Berry from Gunnedah (NSW) won the series, while fellow NSW young rider Nash Goddard from Glendon Brook won the Junior Division. Chase Wieland from Gympie in Queensland won the Senior series buckle and Tamworth’s Liam Birks took out the Rising Star title.

“With the finale of 2025 season finishing on a such a great note and Kurt Shephard breaking not only a PBR Australia but also an Australian Rodeo record in single career earnings in the discipline of bull riding , 2026 is shaping up to be a hotly contested season,”

PRIME MINISTER MUST REVISIT TOBACCO EXCISE AS NEW REPORT SHOWS LEGAL MARKET COULD COLLAPSE BY 2029

The Australian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) has called on the Prime Minister to urgently review tobacco excise settings following reporting in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald on the Oxford Economics report – Addressing Australia’s Illicit Tobacco market. AACS CEO Theo Foukkare said the report reinforced warnings that current policy settings were driving a rapid shift away from the legal tobacco market and towards illegal supply controlled by organised crime. “The modelling confirms what retailers are seeing on the ground - the legal market is being replaced by an illegal one,” Mr Foukkare said. “Going by this report,…

Oxford Economics report shows tobacco excise provides solution to Chalmers’ Budget hole

New research released by one of Australia’s biggest retailers reveals the scale of revenue being lost to the booming illicit tobacco industry. The report into the illicit tobacco landscape by Oxford Economics Australia has identified that over a decade, $67 billion could have been delivered into the economy as excise. Instead, the high costs associated with legal tobacco are driving smokers towards untaxed, unregulated illicit products. Forecasts show $5.5 billion in tobacco excise is expected to be collected in 2025-26, down from $16.3 billion in 2019-20. Based on the current trajectory of growth in the illicit market, federal excise in…

Social housing gains in the 2020s, almost triple the last decade

Australia’s social housing sector is in the midst of a growth decade unparalleled since the 1980s. As revealed by new research*, the number of homes managed as public, community or Indigenous housing for very low-income earners is set to increase by 55,000 in the ten years to 2030. This is nearly three times the 20,000 social rentals added during the 2010s (as shown by the Productivity Commission’s ROGS report). The total number of new social homes expected to come onstream during the 2020s is even larger, at 70,000, with some 45,000 of these funded by the states – led by…
