Iranian Australians help Intelligence Committee tackle state-sponsored terrorism

Parliament of Australia < 1 min read

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) will hold a public hearing this Thursday for its review of the listing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a state sponsor of terrorism under the Criminal Code.

The IRGC is a hybrid military-security organisation that operates independently from Iran’s conventional armed forces and reports directly to the Supreme Leader. It has a record of conducting internal security operations and hostile overseas activities. The Australian Government listed the IRGC as a state sponsor of terrorism in November 2025.

Chair of the PJCIS, Senator Raff Ciccone, said:

“Submitters to this review have shared concerning details about their experiences with the IRGC, both abroad and here in Australia. The Committee wants to ensure that the voices of Iranian Australians are heard in the review listing process, along with human rights organisations and academic experts.”

Further details on the review, including submissions, are available on the Committee’s website: aph.gov.au/pjcis

eSafety secures court-enforceable undertaking from Roblox to do more to protect Australian kids from grooming and sexual exploitation

Australia’s online safety regulator has accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from gaming giant Roblox to put in place robust measures designed to protect children from grooming, sexual exploitation and abuse. eSafety accepted the undertaking following concerns that Roblox was not meeting its obligations under the Online Safety Act’s codes and standards, including allegedly failing to have sufficient measures in place to prevent contact between adults and children under 16. The Relevant Electronic Services (RES) Standard which covers online gaming platforms like Roblox, also requires children’s accounts to be set to private by default and to provide accessible reporting mechanisms that notify…
