LNP must lift abortion debate gag in wake of latest revelations of babies left to die

Family First Party 2 mins read

Family First is renewing calls for the Queensland LNP to immediately lift its parliamentary gag on MPs speaking about abortion.

At a time when yet more serious and disturbing allegations are emerging from inside Queensland’s health system, silencing elected representatives is anti-democratic.

Multiple Queensland health workers have now come forward as whistleblowers. What they have revealed should chill every decent Australian.

A chilling image of dead “baby Samuel” (pictured), provided by a whistleblower, is circulating online.

Yet instead of transparency, accountability and open debate, the LNP has imposed a gag — preventing its own MPs from speaking freely in parliament about abortion.

The LNP did this in the wake of whistleblower Louise Adsett’s harrowing testimony before Parliament in 2024 about her first hand experiences of watching babies born alive after abortions and left to die, sometimes gasping for breath for hours.

Parliament exists to scrutinise power, to give voice to the voiceless and to confront injustice. When politicians are muzzled on matters of life and death, democracy itself is diminished.

Family First believes Queenslanders deserve the truth — not secrecy, not political management, and not party discipline enforced at the expense of vulnerable children.

Family First encourages everyone to join a rally being held next Monday, February 9, to shine a light on the latest whistleblower revelations of babies being born alive in Queensland hospitals and left to die.

Monday 9 February

5.30–6.30pm

Speaker’s Corner, outside Queensland Parliament

2A George Street, Brisbane

Here is a list of the LNP MPs, taken from Hansard, who in December 2024 voted to ban discussion on abortion in the Parliament for the entirety of this term:

AYES, 50: LNP, 50—Baillie, Barounis, Bates, Bennett, Bleijie, Boothman, Camm, Crandon, Crisafulli, Dalton, Dillon, Doolan, Dooley, Field, Frecklington, Gerber, Head, Hutton, Hunt, B. James, T. Family First urges Queenslanders to contact these MPs and urge them to either overturn the gag or defy it in the wake of the latest revelations of babies being born alive and left to die.

Under-18s super carve-out sees teens in Victoria miss out on $117 million in super contributions

The Super Members Council is pushing to scrap an outdated law that denies super to most under-18 workers, after new analysis shows it will shortchange teenagers in Victoria $117 million in 2025/26. The research found165,000 under-18 workers in Victoria will miss out on an average of $710 in super contributions this year, and about 515,000 teen workers nationally will be denied a combined $405 million. Under current rules, workers under the age of 18 are only legally guaranteed super if they work more than 30 hours a week for one employer. The outdated exclusion was originally made to prevent fees…

Public Hospital Funding an Ongoing Disaster for Patients

“Patients will continue to languish for months and years on public hospital waiting lists despite the announcement of a record $25 billion Federal funding for public hospitals, said Dr Tim Woodruff, President”, Doctors Reform Society. It’s all about smoke and mirrors, said Woodruff. Of course it’s a record spend. “Any new spending will be a record because our population is growing, it is aging, and demand is increasing. It’s a scratched record.” “What we really want to know is whether this new spending increases the Federal contribution up towards the 50% level it was set at decades ago. It has…
