Background
Myuna Colliery exists solely to supply coal to Origin’s Eraring Power Station via a dedicated conveyor system and employs around 300 direct workers, with more than a thousand additional jobs supported through contractors and local supply chains. Acute uncertainty has arisen due to ongoing commercial negotiations between mine operator Centennial Coal and Origin Energy over the terms of a future coal supply agreement. Centennial has indicated that offers to date do not cover operating costs and would result in closure, despite the NSW Government’s decision to extend the life of Eraring Power Station to 2029.
