Parliament to Weigh ABC – LGBTQA links

The Declaration of Biological Truth Australia 2 mins read
Key Facts:
  • Petition challenging ABC's alliance with LGBTQA group ACON to be presented to parliament on 9th February, citing breach of ABC Charter
  • Studies show ABC demonstrated bias in transgender-related reporting, whilst receiving Platinum Status from ACON
  • Petition sponsored by Phillip Dye, former UTS Media lecturer and founder of Declaration of Biological Truth Australia
  • Over 5,000 Australians signed the Declaration of Biological Truth, with 1,260 signing the specific ABC-ACON petition
  • Concerns raised about ABC's impartiality due to paid membership with ACON and subsequent content rewards, despite both organisations being respected

A petition to force the ABC to cut its alliance with LGBTQA action group ACON will go to parliament on Monday February 9th. The ‘ABC out of ACON’, petition is based on studies indicating the ABC’s alliance with ACON is in breach of the ABC Charter and the ABC Code of Conduct.

The studies revealed that the ABC was biased on transgender and non-binary topics. News critical of transgender ideas were ignored while transgender-positive opinion pieces were presented as NEWS. The ABC has been awarded Platinum Status by ACON for their LGBTQA culture and content.

The petition was sponsored by Phillip Dye, a journalist and past Lecturer in Media at UTS. He’s also the author of one of the studies and the Founder of the Declaration of Biological Truth Australia.

Over 5,000 Australians have signed The Declaration of Biological Truth including scientists, doctors, teachers, politicians and entertainers. 1,260 Australians also signed the petition.

Dye stresses that the petition is not critical of the ABC or of ACON, yet as a taxpayer funded media outlet, the ABC should be free from any links that could bias reporting or be seen to bias reporting.

“The ABC is full of good people as is ACON. The ABC however, pays ACON membership fees, and is then rewarded for their recruitment practices, content and news coverage. This puts them in serious breach of their charter and code of conduct.

“The ABC could link with any number of organisations that won’t influence content or news. The Smith Family or the Moriarty Foundation for Indigenous Children are two. At a time when transgender medical practice is being questioned by doctors worldwide, the ABC-ACON alliance is a contentious one.” Dye said.

The petition goes before the House of Representatives on Monday the 9th February.

The Declaration is not aligned with any political or religious group. Thousands of ordinary concerned citizens have signed. The Declaration is not anti-trans.
