Shelton to move to restore biological truth to NSW school enrolment forms

Family First Party 2 mins read

Family First NSW Legislative Council candidate Lyle Shelton today announced that if elected in March 2027, he will move to retore biological truth to NSW school enrolment forms to ensure that only biological male and female can be designated when a child enrols at school.

Mr Shelton said changes introduced this term by the NSW Department of Education to include “self-described” gender categories on enrolment forms represent a dangerous departure from biological reality and common sense.

Whistleblowers from within the NSW DOE have provided screen shots from the internal Sentral computer system advising schools of the radical change, including schools’ need to make accommodations for pronouns that run counter to biology.

“Schools must record the biological sex of children accurately for health and safety reasons,” Mr Shelton said.

“Accurate data about whether a child is male or female is essential for medical care, sport, privacy protections, accommodation arrangements and risk management. It is not compassionate to deny reality — it puts the student in danger.

“It particularly endangers girls who are forced to compete with and be accommodated with biological males.”

Under the policy, schools are permitted to record students under categories such as “Self-described”, alongside Male, Female, Intersex, Not Stated or Other, and allow the use of non-binary pronouns.

Mr Shelton said this risks reinforcing gender confusion among children who are not developmentally equipped to make life-altering identity decisions.

“The vast majority of children who experience gender distress will resolve it naturally if not affirmed into an experimental medical pathway. Encouraging children to view sex as fluid exposes them to well-documented risks including lifelong sexual dysfunction, infertility, sterility and irreversible bodily harm from puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgical interventions.”

Mr Shelton said overseas authorities have already begun reversing course, citing the closure of England’s Tavistock gender clinic and growing international concern about the medicalisation of vulnerable young people.

“This ideology should not be embedded in official government forms. It should not be normalised by the NSW Department of Education.”

Mr Shelton said his proposed legislation would require that NSW school enrolment documentation reflect biological sex only, while ensuring that any child experiencing distress receives appropriate psychological support rather than ideological affirmation.

“Children deserve protection from radical LGBTQA+ gender fluid ideology, not encouragement into pathways that can cause lifelong harm,” he said.

“NSW schools should be places of truth, safety and learning — not laboratories for social experimentation.”

SMC welcomes work starting on reforms to stop perpetrators inheriting their victim’s super

The Super Members Council welcomes the Government’s announcement today that it has opened public consultation on promised reforms to prevent family and domestic violence perpetrators from inheriting their victims’ superannuation death benefits. The Council has long championed reforms to close a loophole in super law that can enable a perpetrator to benefit financially from the harm they inflicted on a partner. Closing this legal loophole was among SMC's 12 key policy prioritiesthat the council asked all parties and independents to support to strengthen and safeguard people’s super. Under existing laws, a perpetrator can claim a spouse or partner’s super death…

Win for transparency and accountability following FOI discharge

Western Australian Independent Senator Fatima Payman is today celebrating a big win for freedom and transparency after the Government discharged the flawed Freedom of Information Bill from the notice paper. In the final week of sitting in 2025 Senator Payman committed to moving a motion on discharging the Bill on the first sitting. On 3 February, she moved for the discharge, which failed after the Liberal Party and National Party abstained, but undeterred she sought to move again this week for its discharge. Instead of allowing the motion to go for a vote, the Government last-minute discharged the Bill this…
