Big steps for a brighter future: Steps for STEPS walking challenge

STEPS Pathways Charity 2 mins read

STEPS Pathways Charity is calling on the community to take big steps for a brighter future this April through Steps for STEPS, a month-long walking challenge making an enormous impact on the lives of young people with a disability and autism.

Steps for STEPS aims to raise $50,000 to help fund lifechanging independence education at STEPS Pathways College for young adults with a disability and autism. Supporters can join the walking challenge, sponsor a student or donate directly to the campaign goal.

STEPS Pathways Charity Manager Katrina May is encouraging everyone to get involved.

“I invite you to support Steps for STEPS because every step taken and every dollar raised will make a difference and when our community gives, our students grow,” Ms May said.

“By registering for the challenge or donating, you are symbolically walking alongside our STEPS Pathways College students and showing them that the whole community believes in them and is cheering them on every step of the way.”

Anyone can register for the walking challenge, set a distance goal, and ask friends and family to sponsor their efforts.

On Friday 1 May, STEPS Pathways College students will walk 24 kilometres from Maroochydore to Caloundra, symbolising their 24-month holistic learning journey.

Ms May said community support has a powerful positive effect on STEPS Pathways College students, empowering more and more young people with a disability and autism to strive for an independent future.

“Young people with a disability and autism have the same dreams as anyone else: to make strong connections, live with friends, chase their passions, and build a life that’s truly their own,” Ms May said.

“Yet so many face barriers to their goals. They are often underestimated and not given the same opportunities as other young people. Our STEPS Pathways College students are proof that young people with a disability and autism are capable of living independent and incredibly fulfilling lives when they are surrounded by people who truly believe in them and invest in their future.”

As a registered not-for-profit organisation, all donations to Steps for STEPS over $2 are 100% tax deductible.

Registration and sponsorships are now open. For more information or to get involved, visit stepspathways.com.au/steps-for-steps
