19 March 2026

Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers and their families from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven will be thanked and recognised on Saturday, 21 March at Albion Park Rail at a Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA) Family Day.

Attendees will have free access to the HARS Aviation Museum, home to some of Australia’s incredible aviation history including a wealth of historic aircraft and aviation artefacts.

The RFSA team will be on hand serving up lunch to members and their families, as well as offering complimentary health checks and access to mental health support services.

RFSA President Scott Campbell said the Family Days recognise the important role of volunteers and their significant contribution to keeping people, homes and properties safe.

“RFS members play a critical role year-round, responding not only to bushfires, but all types of emergencies, whether that’s structure fires, motor vehicle accidents or electric car fires.

“When they aren’t responding to live scenarios, they’re preparing for the next emergency - undertaking training, hazard reduction works and other community engagement.

“RFSA Family Days are an important opportunity for us to give back to our volunteers. We’re looking forward to connecting with local RFS brigade members and having a fun day out with family and friends.

“The RFSA exists to support the volunteers and staff of the Rural Fire Service who give up their time to be there for our communities on what can sometimes be their worst days. They provide an incredible service and deserve to be celebrated.

“On behalf of the RFSA, I want to thank our volunteers and look forward to seeing them and their families.”

The RFSA Family Day on Saturday 21 March at HARS Aviation Museum, runs from 9:30am to 3pm, and 300 members are expected to attend.

Behaviour contracts won’t fix bullying crisis

Paper-trail solutions to the state’s bullying crisis won’t work and a new approach is needed, Youth Action NSW has warned. The peak body for the state’s youth says the plan to require parents and students to acknowledge new behaviour codes risks missing the deeper causes of bullying and places responsibility on families who have little control over what happens inside school grounds. The warning comes after a shocking incident at a south-west Sydney school in which a 13-year-old girl was allegedly punched, humiliated and taunted by other students during a five-hour ordeal that has horrified parents across the state. Youth…
